PAWN CITY OF DOTHAN, INC. OPENED IN Dothan in May of 1997.
I, Tami Bryant assumed the role of Manager after Bill Tatum’s passing in July of 2011. Bill came to Pawn City in 2001 as the new co-owner and manager, he passed away after the most courageous battle with pancreatic cancer we have ever witnessed. Bill is still missed everyday by staff and customer’s alike.
In July of 2014 I became Co-Owner and Manager and consider it a true honor and privilege to follow in Bill’s footsteps and to carry on the legacy of integrity that Pawn City stands on.
A pawn shop is a collateral loan business. People bring in items of value and we loan cash on a portion of it’s value. The customer has 30 days to retrieve their item back with interest or pay the interest and buy more time on that item. After 60 days without payment the item is then put out for sale. I feel we are an asset to the customer who only needs a small loan to get them through till payday. You would have a hard time borrowing $100.00 from a bank for a few weeks.
I receive great satisfaction in doing this, plus, I feel like I’m helping my fellow citizens and community as well. Pawn shops sometimes get a bad reputation as a fence or a place to take stolen items. That is really not the case. In fact we help solve crimes for the police. It is not that often stolen items come through our store. We require the Pawnee to have a state issued VALID picture ID to pawn anything and they must also be 19 years old. A list of everything we take in each day goes to the Police Department daily with the description, model number and serial number. We also have 24 hour cameras recording transactions and events taking place in our store.
My staff and I are here to help in any way that we can. Fast, Friendly Service is our motto and we usually loan more.
